From Plan to Reality: Running Policy Events That Actually Work
Online | 2.5 hours
Why this workshop?
Designing an event is one thing.
Running it in real life is another.
No matter how well you plan:
- Speakers arrive late
- Tech doesn’t work
- The room feels flat
- Sponsors have expectations
- And everything happens at once
This is where most events fall apart.
Level 2 is about what actually happens on the day—and how to stay in control while delivering an experience people remember.
What you’ll learn
In this hands-on, simulation-based workshop, you’ll learn how to:
- Handle real-life event challenges (before they handle you)
- Manage speakers, participants, and stakeholders in real time
- Design and control the flow, energy, and rhythm of your event
- Create meaningful networking moments (not just coffee breaks)
- Maximise the impact of your event after it ends
What makes this different?
This is not a lecture. It’s a live experience.
You will:
- Step into real event scenarios and react in real time
- Handle unexpected situations through role play
- Learn by doing, not just listening
- Get direct feedback on your decisions and approach
This is as close as it gets to running an event—without the risk.
Why there is a Level 1 and Level 2
Designing an event and running it are two very different challenges.
Level 1 focuses on getting the foundations right:
- Clarifying purpose
- Understanding the Brussels context
- Making the right strategic decisions
- Designing the overall experience
Level 2 is about what happens in real life:
- Handling unexpected situations
- Managing people, timing, and pressure
- Delivering an event that actually works in the moment
You can explore Level 1 here.
Attendance to Level 1 is required to join Level 2, as it provides the foundations we build on during the session.
Who is this for?
- Participants who completed Level 1: How to design policy events as an experience
- Policy and communications professionals
- Event organisers (accidental or experienced)
- Consultants, NGO staff, public affairs teams
- Anyone working in or around Brussels
What you’ll walk away with
- Confidence to handle real event challenges
- Practical experience through live simulations
- A deeper understanding of what makes events succeed—or fail
- Concrete improvements you can apply immediately
